The Last Sin Eater

I watched this last night. I do recommend it, but it's not a family film, not for young children to view.

The pacing is fairly slow, which isn't always a bad thing, of course. It's nicely filmed (though some of the effects are kinda cheesy) and well-acted. Still, the story involves some pretty deep emotional trauma on the part of a child, which is why I say not for young children. There's also some brutal violence that's particularly disturbing due to who's doing what to whom. (I won't say more in case you're going to see it.)

The main point -- Jesus is the only one who can forgive our sins -- is clearly made.

I'm curious to know if the premise is based on fact, I guess it must be?

The Last Sin eater is a novel by Francine Rivers. It is based on real Scottish (I think) habits in the past of having a person "eat" the sins of the whole clan so they can be cleansed.

Right. I knew that much... just wondering *if* that tradition was indeed brought to this country and if so, how long it persisted.

I love Francine Rivers' books. Part of the reason why I wanted to watch the movie. Her "Mark of the Lion" series is fab.

Actually I think the people in the movie were from Wales.
