Tuesday: La Brea Tar Pits, Beverly Hills, & Malibu

Started our day by heading south towards downtown LA and Wilshire Boulevard. Turning west we drove several miles through commercial mess to the La Brea Tar Pits & Page Museum. Hung out there for a while until a dozen busloads of schoolkids arrived... See photos below of younger dd & dh jumping off the edge of the pavement into the parking lot below :-) Back in the car and heading west to Beverly Hills, down Rodeo Drive and gawking at all the fabulous homes that go on for miles and miles in and through Bel Air, Brentwood, etc. Finally made our way to the ocean, turning north on the Pacific Coast Highway. Stopped for a yummy & fresh seafood lunch at The Reel Inn. Then drove several more miles through Malibu, stopping finally to walk on Westward Beach. We went the whole length and then some of us went up the path to the top of the rock outcropping (I think it was the beginning of Pt. Dume) for an amazing view. (Still looking for links since I'm not entirely sure where we were!) Walked back, drove through the Topanga Canyon to the freeway and east to Pasadena (very thankful for the carpool lane!) Time for a quick rest and then we were off to dinner with some of dh's associates before his film showing. The girls & I headed back to the room to watch American Idol (which we never do so that was kind of a treat) while dh & ds went to the seminary for the movie. Long, full day. Posted by Picasa
