Thursday Randomness

#1. The Sun is finally out, after day upon day of rain & clouds. I know that isn't any kinda earth-shattering news, but it's been a dreary Spring so far and I'm ready for some sunshine & warmth!!

#2. Also what's cool is that in the last few days the leaves on the trees have appeared. Now, as I glance to my left while typing, I see yellow-green, mixed with brown & blue. Awesome-ness.

#3. So this whole Susan Boyle craziness is kinda funny. I suppose you ARE one of the 13-million-and-counting people who have watched the video online, right? When I first viewed it a few days ago (mentioned here) I believe it had somewhere in the tens of thousands of hits. Amazing.

[ETA: as of Friday morning the views are over 19 million! I do have questions though. Does this "story" teach that we shouldn't judge a person's potential for talent based on appearance or does it actually reinforce the notion that someone who looks frumpy couldn't possibly have a star-quality singing voice? In other words, if it wasn't a big deal that she could maybe sing, then why is it such a big deal that she can sing? Am I missing something? Or is the story just about the viewer feeling superior to the live audience? Or is that just the video's editor playing up audience reactions for effect? The video does kinda play like a Disney movie, doesn't it? And lastly, I do agree she has a nice voice but I'm not sure it warrants all the attention she's getting.)

#4. Gardening update: I've been working a bit on the flower beds and doing other miscellaneous gardening-type activities like potting up herbs, starting some plants from seed, moving things around, putting in some new plants, pruning bushes, spraying deer-repellant everywhere constantly, etc. etc. Right now I'm waiting for the columbines to bloom. Any day now!

#5. Time to get off the computer and rustle up some dinner. And then it's off to older dd's ballet class in town.
