TV Free

It's total feast or famine here with the blogging thing. Guess that's just the way I am... but what I really wanted to talk about was that since we got home from England we've been TV free and it's very, very awesome.

I am so happy to no longer be tempted (or able!) to watch late-at-night stupid shows and the girls don't seem to miss their PBS. Z never really watched much TV and dh only watched the occasional sporting event.

We are still watching movies, of course. Our Netflix account is much-loved. Yesterday the kids and I watched The Man from Snowy River. I totally didn't put it together that the "just got back from taming a wild stallion" music in Napoleon Dynamite is the theme music from this movie. Amazing scenery (can I please go to Australia?!?!) and incredibly beautiful horses... I didn't remember the bad language and the part of the plot where Jessica's father shoots his brother (and wonders if Jessica is his daughter)... I think we saw this originally in the early 80s when I was 20-something.

Dh and ds watched The Village over the weekend. I think they liked it. They watched Signs a few weeks ago.

The new Pride and Prejudice is on its way. Also I've been watching the Upstairs Downstairs series. It's kinda intense! (And very funny in places.) The acting is good. I really didn't know what to expect, but with our England trip I was interested. I'm not sure I'll watch the whole series... will have to see how it goes.

So what's in YOUR queue?

If you have seen the BBC miniseries P&P, you might feel like the new one is watching it on fast forward. That's how I felt the whole first time I watched it. I then watched it again a month or two later. I like it a lot! There is some amazing camera work. Now that I am thinking about it, I might have to watch it again.

We don't have a "queue" but I did get "Alex and Emma" from the library. I was enjoying it immensely (actually laughed out loud in several places) when the stupid DVD stopped working because it is all scratched up. I think the other library patrons use these DVDs as hockey pucks or something! Usually it is just the children's ones that are messed up, so I won't get kids' movies on DVD anymore. So now I have to go rent Alex and Emma to see how it turned out.

BTW, did you see my revised schedule before I deleted it?

Oh, and I forgot to say that my dc have been PBS-free for a couple years now, ever since Arthur crossed one too many lines. We don't miss it at all!

Wish I could go without tv. Would save money, plus, it would save a lot of headache. I hate tv, but get sucked in because Dear Sir wants to watch a game.

I don't watch anything very often though. I watch about an hour a week? I don't know. Don't have time...

Good for your family.

I love The Village. Scared the crap out of me when I first saw it. I left indentations of my five fingers in my husband's legs and also made Diane laugh so hard she cried, which is no fair, because she had already seen it so wasn't as scared. Anyway. I think it is a fabulous movie. Juaquin (sp?) Phoenix is AMAZING as is the lead actress, his love interest, but I don't know her name.
