Aliens

We watched two "aliens" movies back-to-back this weekend. "War of the Worlds" on Saturday night and "Signs" on Sunday night.

I'm not going to do the "compare-and-contrast" thing, don't worry. But it was fun to watch them both so close together. "War" is rather intense. Not for the faint of heart -- and NOT because of the aliens but rather because of the humans. Anyone else who's seen this think the portrayal of the mob behaviour is realistic? I don't know. It sure was scary. I am not going to let my 14 yo dd watch this one. (Not to mention how Tom Cruise's character deals with the guy in the basement.)

I did, however, appreciate the sub-plot (or maybe it's the main plot?) of dad and son. Loved it, actually. (Won't say more so as not to spoil...)

"Signs" is rather strange but I definitely recommend it. Dd did watch this and was disturbed by a few of the scenes, one in particular. If you're sensitive to animals getting hurt you won't like it either. In this case though, the movie is definitely NOT about the aliens (which are actually quite silly-looking -- I think on purpose) and ALL about the humans -- the main character (portrayed by Mel Gibson) in particular. It's powerful. (Again, I'd love to say more but if you haven't seen it and plan to you won't appreciate it.)
