One of the reasons my parents came through this past week is that they were on their way back from Florida where they visited my dad's cousin B and his wife P. P & B had generously offered to give my parents a piece of furniture that originally belonged to my great-grandparents (my dad's father's mother and father). My parents took our van to the wedding in SC and then continued on from there to Florida and back here. The piece is an oak china cabinet and it's in great shape!
Here it is -- now in the corner of my living room. It adds a lot to the room. Even dh (who generally isn't very interested in these sorts of things) acknowledged that it looked very nice and balanced out the other furniture in the room.
This is the first time in our 25 years of marriage that I've had anything like this piece of furniture. It's really nice to have a place to put what little glassware and pretty dishes we have. My mom very kindly took out what I had (that was hiding in my kitchen cabinets) and put it in the cabinet all nicely arranged!
A wonderful birthday-time gift for me!
