The Friday After

All the important stuff went really well last weekend. Ds is now a freshman again, as one of his friends reminded him. He's actually kind of relieved about that, the whole being-a-senior thing was starting to get to him, I think.

Older dd's recital was beautiful and she is an amazingly strong and gorgeous dancer. It's just a fact.

So. We are slowly recovering from May. It is almost over, but before it is, our weekend will bring more excitement... we are celebrating younger dd's 11th birthday with a visit to a local "fun park" (laser tag, go-carts, arcade games, etc.) along with 8 friends, brother/sister & grandad! Dinner, cupcakes & ice cream will follow and then a few friends are staying for a sleepover.

Tomorrow another friend (that couldn't make it to the party today) will come for another sleepover and then on Sunday older dd, younger dd and I will go to the Carolina Ballet! (Not part of the birthday celebration -- we've never been and they are putting on Beauty and the Beast. I thought that'd be good to see.)

Monday morning I will take a deep breath or two and tackle the homeschool closet... it's always a therapeutic activity for me to put away the year's books and start to think about plans for the fall. I used to plan in August (right before we started) but a few years ago I changed that and do the bulk of it in early June. The advantage there is that the year is fresh in my mind (what worked, what didn't) and it helps me to relax more during the summer knowing I have the next homeschool year mostly figured out.

Last evening it rained and the kids went out and ran around in it. Then we all enjoyed a lazy evening at home together... so nice after the last nine months of running hither and yon.

Emily, sounds like things went well, and I'm so happy you can take a breath. Enjoy the birthday party. I know it is the talk of the day around here! LOL.

Congratulations on the graduation! I was sorry I couldn't make it - my knee has been worse.

Enjoy your planning, your summer, and your rest. Younger son told me that he wants to do more grammar and spelling when we start again after our vacation. The other two never told me that!

How they surprise us...
